COURAGE - October 2016

Huddle time is a great way to begin a conversation and continue it at home, in the car, or anywhere you are together with your student. If you are having difficulties getting answers, try answering the questions first. It is a great way to model how you want them to respond! Have fun and get talking.

For VPK-1st Grade

Parents ask: This month we talked about courage, which means being brave, and doing things that can be scary. What are some things that scare you?

What does being scared look like? What does being brave look like?

When you are scared, you can always come to me. And God can also be with you too. Let's pray to God right now and ask to be brave. Dear God, help us be brave when things are scary. Just like Moses did. Thank God. We love you. Amen.

For Elementary Students

Parents ask: This month we talked a lot about Courage. What does courage mean in your words?

Kids ask: What are you afraid of?

Parents ask: You know I will always try to protect you and keep you safe. Who else do you have in your life to keep you safe? What can we do to help you be brave when things are scary?

Kids ask: When you are scared, what do you do to find courage?

Parents ask: What are some ways you can show courage everyday?

Pray to God asking for courage even when you feel afraid.

For Middle School/High School Students

Ask each family member to share about one of the most courageous things they ever did or describe one of the most courageous people they have ever met.

Parents ask: What will happen when we give our fears to God?

Kids ask: If we don't want to be afraid anymore, how can conquer our fears?

Parents ask: Do you think fear is a useful emotion? Would we be better off if we were incapable of feeling fear?

Pray together about how you can show courage, and that God will be with you when life seems impossible.

TRUST - SEPTEMBER 2016

Huddle time is a great way to begin a conversation and continue it at home, in the car, or anywhere you are together with your student. If you are having difficulties getting answers, try answering the questions first. It is a great way to model how you want them to respond! Have fun and get talking.

For VPK-1st grade

Parents ask: Joseph went through a lot of tough things. Losing his family, becoming a slave, going to jail. But he knew he wasn't alone. Who was with him?

Parents say: God was with Joseph. He might not have seen God, or heard him, but Joseph knew he could trust God no matter what, and so can we. Ask: When you want to talk to God, what can you do? Say: That's right. We can pray to God anytime, but did you know that we don't have to use any special words to pray? Just whatever is on our minds. Let's pray together right now.

For Elementary students:

Parents ask: Would you tell someone you don't know a secret? Why?

Kids ask: How do you know if you can trust someone?

Parents ask: How can you get somebody to trust you?

Kids ask: Why is trust important to relationships?

Parents ask: Joseph went through a lot of tough things. Losing his family, becoming a slave, going to jail. What do you think was the toughest thing for him through it all? Even during those times he knew he wasn't alone. Who was with him?

Kids ask: When have you gone through a tough time? Did you know God was with you? How?

Parents ask: Joseph knew we can trust God no matter what. How can you remember God is with you during your tough times? How can I help you remember God is with you?

For Middle School/High School students:

Parents ask: Joseph had to trust God even when things could have gone very bad. What are some things that prevent you from trusting God in tough situations?

Students ask: What are two things you could ask someone you just met to find out if they're trustworthy?

Parents ask: How can you lose or gain trust? What have you done to gain trust with your close friends and family?

Students ask: When someone breaks your trust, how do they earn it back?
